Fla-Vor-Ice All Grown Up

 

Warning: I'm about to go "all Martha on you." Don't get me wrong. I love the woman bar none. For me, her cool chick points peaked at Justin Bieber's Roast, where she sat next to a smoking Snoop Dogg talking about some brownies they made together. But the other more mainstream Martha can make me a little nauseous. Too much of anything turns me off and, seriously, how can anyone be that perfect? Staff of thousands aside, she is purely the jack-of-all-trades and striving to be her could get anyone committed. But until I get my hands on her magic brownie recipe, we'll all have to settle for this pretty innocent, yet pretty magical, concoction I whipped up - flavored ice. 

 

Think of this as a healthy LaCroix alternative and without the aluminum can! Dream up anything really. I went for flavors I love - watermelon-kiwi-basil and cucumber-lime-mint. Grabbed herbs from my garden (so Martha), juiced and strained my fruit, and loaded up my new ice trays. I opted for small cubes, so they would melt faster. Fill a high ball to the top with cubes and add water for a refreshing drink or club soda with a vodka or gin floater for a cool cocktail. If you like those big ice balls I also made, order this tray too. The fancy stripes happened naturally as the fruit juice separated. One more tip to make Martha take stock...strain your juice through a nut milk bag to thin your juice. Your masterpiece will look that much prettier when it melts.
